CANNA brought the Giants back to the Malvern Autumn Show for a fourth year as the Three Counties Showground played host to the CANNA UK National Giant Vegetable Championships. Visitors were treated to a new CANNA garden design this year, with hand carved pumpkin scientists observing the Giants to compete and the produce to eat.

With new and returning growers in competition, history was again made as World and UK records were both made and broken! CANNA sponsored grower Joe Atherton holds a new Guinness World Record for the longest turnip ever to be recorded, measuring in at a lengthy 4.064m.

2019 was a mixed bag for CANNA sponsored growers as with many of this years competition growers who struggled with the weather this season but still offered a great showing taking a handful of top prizes.

Joe Atherton became one of CANNA's original organic growers this year, using the BIOCANNA range to produce his first place onions. This first sees Joe using BIOCANNA Bio Vega & Bio Flores, CU Certified 100% organic products, to produce not only prize winning Giant Vegetables, but ones which hold true taste.

On the Sunday growers & visitors keen to learn were treated to an in-depth seminar on companion planting by guest speaker Nicolette Linton from Plant Research.

2019 marked the first year of the new CANNA Plant Research hub inside the CANNA UK Giant Vegetables marquee. The Plant Research team set up camp with an array of mini beasts, companion plants and leaf deficiencies offering a world of plant science to visitors.

With years of experience, knowledge, hard work and research behind them, there were many discussions on dealing with pests and diseases, maximising a plants potential and understanding how best to grow season on season.

The future of Giant Vegetable growing is evolving, it's Grow Big or Go Home and 2020 is filled with boundless potential! Whether you're a beginner or already a competition winner, you could be making history next year.
