Why BIOCANNA?

BIOCANNA fertilisers are 100% organic and especially developed for cultivation in potting mix. Products grown with BIOCANNA fertilisers can be called organic, provided they are grown organic and in accordance with the international guidelines. CANNA protects the production process from the raw produce to the final product so that you are guaranteed the best result.

BIOCANNA nutrients are vegetable-based and do not contain any animal ingredients or by-products. The main advantage of this is that the product's composition is much better tuned to the plant's needs. An additional advantage is that the product cannot contain any animal pathogenic organisms, such as influenza viruses (avian flu, for example) that can be harmful to human health.

Quality proves itself!

History of Farming

Farming started 12,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age. The increasingly warmer climate enabled people to start growing crops for themselves and to remain in the same location for a longer period of time. This enabled us to finally move on from the insecure lifestyle of hunting and collecting. This resulted in the first civilisations (Syria, Mexico and China). People realised that a plant would grow better if you mix fertilisers through the potting mix, but the reason why is not known. Back then we did not know anything about nutritional elements.

It was Justus Von Liebig who showed the relationship between nutritional elements and plant growth in 1838 through experimental research. Eventually this has led to the introduction of fertilisers; a true revolution in farming. The use and working of the elements NPK was applied with variable success. Nitrogen (N) was obtained from coal tar. Phosphorus (P) could be obtained from bones. Potassium (K) was found as raw material in the mines of Chile and India.

What is Organic Farming?

The discovery of fertilisers contributed enormously to people's prosperity. Unfortunately there are also disadvantages to modern farming, such as a deterioration of the potting mix quality and the environment. Dissatisfaction which led to two new farming movements in the last century: organic farming and bio-dynamic farming.

The aim of organic farming is to produce in a sustainable manner and in harmony with nature. To realise and maintain this, organic farming is based on three basic principles:

  1. Non use of chemical pesticides
  2. Non use of fertiliser
  3. Aiming for a wide biodiversity

Through the implementation of these rules, a natural growth environment is created with a good structure and a healthy micro-flora.

These principles are supported in the use of BIOCANNA products. Unfortunately this is often not the case with many so-called biological products. These products are mostly only partially organic, while BIOCANNA products are guaranteed 100% organic.

Growing Organically

Fertilisers from vegetable or animal origin are called organic fertilisers. An advantage of organic fertilisers over synthetic fertilisers is that they bring organic material into the soil, which leads to an improvement of the soil's structure. This is better for the environment due to less washing out of minerals and an improvement in water absorption.

Healthy soil with immediately absorbable and bound minerals deserves a lot of attention in biological farming and is closely connected to the three principles on which biological farming is based. However, organic fertilisers may still contain animal substances - something that the conscientious biological grower prefers not to use.

BIOCANNA nutrients are vegetable-based and do not contain any animal ingredients or by-products. The main advantage of this is that the product's composition is much better tuned to the plant's needs.

An additional advantage is that the product cannot contain any animal pathogenic organisms, such as influenza viruses (for example chicken pest) that can be harmful to the health of humans.
